HIPERLAN channel assignment strategies

چکیده
Introduction: HIPERLAN (high performance radio local area network) is a wireless LAN standard recently adopted by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) [1]. HIPERLAN (type 1) operates in 150MHz of spectrum in the 5.15–5.30GHz band, with five TDD channels capable of data transmission at speeds of up to 23.5Mbit/s. HIPERLAN uses a (31, 26) BCH code to encode data to be transmitted into 31 bit segments, and Gaussian minimum shift keying (GMSK) with BT = 0.3 to modulate these encoded bits for transmission over the air at a high bit rate (23.5Mbit/s). Each HIPERLAN cell site or hub may transmit on any HIPERLAN channel, however the hub and all terminals within the cell operate on only one RF channel at any given time. Only one terminal in each HIPERLAN cell may transmit a packet at a time. The hub RF channel may be chosen dynamically in accordance with the HIPERLAN clear channel assessment (CCA) scheme [1]. The CCA scheme flags a channel as being ‘free’ if < –75dBm of RF energy (RSSI or received signal strength indication) is detected in that channel. HIPERLAN includes the provision for the CCA threshold (CCAT) to be increased to above –75dBm, but not lowered. This Letter examines the impact of lowering the CCAT below – 75dBm.

Frequency-offset estimation for HIPERLAN
Frequency-offset correction is considered for a HIPERLAN (HIgh-PErformance Radio LAN) system over the indoor radio channel. Since the multipath channel response is not known a priori, a viable frequency-offset estimator should not depend on such knowledge. Such an estimator, using a single sample per symbol, is derived for HIPERLAN. The estimator is shown to approach the Cramer–Rao bound for fr...
متن کاملDynamic random channel allocation scheme in HIPERLAN type 2
The need for wireless high speed data transmission is increasing. HiperLAN type 2 is an ETSI broadband wireless access network standard operating in license-exempt 5GHz band. The MAC protocol of HiperLAN type 2 is based on TDMA/TDD and resources in one MAC frame can be allocated dynamically by Access Point(AP). In this paper, we propose a dynamic random channel allocation scheme for HiperLAN ty...
متن کاملA Software Defined Radio Test-bed for WLAN Front Ends
In our Software Defined Radio (SDR) project we aim at combining two different types of standards, Bluetooth and HiperLAN/2 on one common flexible hardware platform. The HiperLAN/2 hardware is that complex compared to the Bluetooth hardware, that Bluetooth capability may be added to the HiperLAN/2 platform at limited cost. The question is how to do this. In this paper we first describe the radio...
متن کاملHiperLAN / 2 performance effect under different channel environments and variable resource allocation
This paper aims to provide an evaluation about HiperLAN/2 system’s performance. These will be shown by simulating the physical model under different channel environments which are defined in ETSI/BRAN standard. The other parameter that will be investigated is the system’s throughput.
متن کاملGeneral Model for Infrastructure Multi-channel Wireless LANs
In this paper we develop an integrated model for request mechanism and data transmission in multi-channel wireless local area networks. We calculated the performance parameters for single and multi-channel wireless networks when the channel is noisy. The proposed model is general it can be applied to different wireless networks such as IEEE802.11x, IEEE802.16, CDMA operated networks and Hiperla...
